Is it awful that my first thought is "I don't know what to do to have fun" I definitely need to work on getting some playful stuff back in my life

You might be surprised, and comforted, Louise, to know that you are absolutely not alone in finding it difficult to know what could be fun for you. We’re told we need to be busy and get things done and take care of everyone, that what’s important and gives us value - no wonder we forget what lights us up. When you were little what did you like to do?

What else is playful fun for me:

- Playing hopscotch on the patio

- Singing along to pop songs with gusto, with or without energetic dancing too

- Doodling

- Looking for animals in cloud formations

- Doing (grown-up) sticker-by-numbers pictures, dot-to-dot puzzles and word searches

Ooh I do love looking for meaning in cloud formations. I also really enjoy making food just for myself.

It’s a cloudless sky today 😂 Do you have a favourite go-to dish that feels fun? I’m making my first dhal today 🤞

I love making extravagant toasties! Using up stuff in the fridge in a fun way. Oh good luck with the Dahl, don’t forget the tadka of ghee!

No sure I’m at that level yet! Extravagant toasties sound delicious!

Oh a Tadka is very simple and it will absolutely transform your dahl. Conquer the resistance I say. If it helps, here’s something I wrote about tadka that breaks it up for the uninitiated : https://perzen.substack.com/p/its-time-to-tadka

Thank you! I’d love to hear how you get on with your resistance to fun... 😄

I always resist it for some reason but I love a good dance. Dancing is fun. That’s why Zumba is the only exercise I can tolerate lol

Love that dancing is fun for you and that you know that about yourself! I’m intrigued by the resistance...

Loved this read.

🫧 Bubbles everyday here and a trampoline bounce or three and I guess in those types of fun there’s an exuberance required where I’m fun mum!

I feel like what I really need more of is laughter, funny stories and light hearted ways of being that feel different to how mine recently has been... a spaciousness to find something fun or funny or both maybe?

I bet you’re a v fun mum, love that you have bubbles every day! It’s interesting to think about what fun looks like for our different roles, and what fun is for YOU now.

Dancing, especially if it feels like I’m at a rave in my studio or kitchen or I’m busting out 90s routines. Singing along to 80s and 90s classics and thoroughly enjoying keeping up--thanks Smash Hits. All things arts and craft. Playing chase with the dog and winding him up. Playing board games with the kids and our pals. I also love spotting people and animals in cloud formations!

You've reminded me how much fun bubble blowing is Gabrielle.... I was inspired by Susannah Conway to get some stickers for journaling this week which I didn't think I would enjoy but was surprised by how much I did, apart from the fact I couldn't get half of them off 😡 Other simple and fun things you've got me thinking about -- walking in puddles or streams in wellies, squishing through leaves in Autumn, driving whilst blasting out something on Spotify and singing very loudly ... 😂

Yes, splashing in wellies in puddles never stops being fun, does it?! Oh those pesky sticky stickers 😄 Hope you’re getting yourself some bubble mixture, the weather we’re having is ideal 🫧
