Thank you. I looked through a lot of pics to find the ‘right’ waves 😄

Such a good analogy. It made me think of how when I’m overwhelmed, it’s as if I’m waiting for a boat to come and rescue me to take all of the problems away. Obviously asking for help is important, but being aware of what’s causing the overwhelm and making small changes to bring the tide down is how we can make sustainable progress.

Absolutely, Catherine, yes we can take action ourselves AND we don’t have to deal with overwhelm alone. Where do you turn when the waves are crashing?

I use a similar analogy for my own limits of overwhelm. Being under water but breathing through a straw is peak overwhelm--I can function, but we’re in trouble. When the waves start breaking over the straw, it’s time to get to shallower water before I drown. Getting fired out of the blue last month after nearly 23 years was a tsunami over the straw!

You paint such a vivid picture, Amy. Would you say bringing along a straw (metaphorically) is an alarm bell in itself? Losing your job in that way is really tough, no wonder it felt like a tsunami x

Yes, I think having the feeling that a straw will become necessary would be a sign of trouble ahead. I hadn’t thought of it as a warning bell, before. Thanks for that additional insight!

You’re welcome! When we step back, pause and notice for a moment it’s quite amazing what we see we will cope/put up/make do with before we ask for help or make a change.
