Welcome to The Haven…

…a place where you can take a breath, find comfort and understanding, inspiration and ideas to overcome your overwhelm and move forward with more calm and joy.

Pre-S: It’s less than a month until my book The 1% Wellness Experiment is out in the world (on 21 December 2023)!

Which means you have less than a month to pre-order and get your bonuses for doing so. Click here to find worldwide online stores to pre-order from (or your local bookshop of course) and register for your bonuses.

I’ve been juggling a lot for a while now (promoting my book, running my business, working part-time for my local branch of Mind, studying an MSc, volunteering at my local Foodbank, family and life stuff…). It’s pretty much all good stuff, most of it is my own making and choice and I don’t resent any of it. AND there are a lot of moving parts, there are deadlines, several things that feel like priorities and have urgency attached to them, and some sensitive that feel tricky to navigate.

I used to think that because of the work I do – helping women to lower their stress and overwhelm, and to feel more calm and joy – I needed to keep quiet about any stress and overwhelm I was feeling.

Wrong!

Hiding your reality goes against what I’m really all about and presenting only the shiny side of me doesn’t serve anyone, including me. So, if you’ve been around these parts for a while you’ll have seen me share my wobbles and doubts. And when I do there’s still a part of me that wonders if you might think me incapable of doing this work if I don’t have everything sorted and all stress and overwhelm banished for good.

But, as I’ve also said before, stress and overwhelm will not be completely eradicated from our lives, the waves don’t dry up completely but we can help them to lap at our feet more often than crash over our heads (more explanation on this analogy here).

My coaching, course creating and writing is all informed by study and research and, perhaps more importantly, by my own ongoing experience, how I relate firsthand to the stress and overwhelm that is created by being a human in the world right now.

So, for this week’s letter I thought I’d share five things that have been helping me to feel calm and grounded, and keep the waves from rising above paddling level. It’s not an exhaustive list, it may not be wildly original and I don’t do all of them every day but they support me and maybe they’ll be of use to you too.
